Water Boss Salt-Free Scale Control Review
Verdict: A salt-free scale-control unit with the same water limits, flow and 600,000-gallon media life as the A. O. Smith; a like-for-like alternative. It ranks #5 in our best salt-free water softener systems list.

Our take
On paper this is a twin of the A. O. Smith system. Note that the Amazon listing claims 15 gpm, but Water Boss's own manual rates it at 7 gpm, the same as the A. O. Smith, so choose between them on price and availability.
Water Boss says it is best below 15 gpg and that well water with iron above 0.3 ppm needs a pre-filter first. Its 7 gpm rating covers roughly three showers at once.
As with any TAC system, check your utility's water quality report against those limits before buying, and add a sediment pre-filter if your water carries grit.
How it compares on paper
- Against the Watts Premier OneFlow Plus: a lower rated flow (7 vs 10 gpm).
- Against the Aquasure Serene Lite: a lower rated flow (7 vs 10* gpm).
- Against the Kind Water Systems E-3000: a lower rated flow (7 vs 15 gpm).

Does the Water Boss Salt-Free Scale Control fit your water?
- Hardness: stated maximum 15 gpg; above that, buy a salt-based softener.
- Iron: must stay under under 0.3 ppm (pre-filter above that).
- Flow: about 3 showers at once at its listed 7 gpm.
- Source: city water is the safe fit; wells usually carry iron or sediment that coats the media.
What buyers report
Summarised from Amazon buyer reviews; not our own testing.
- Mostly positive comments on installation and odor removal.
- Mixed comments on effectiveness, value for money and water quality: some buyers are happy, others report problems.
- More complaints than praise about leakage and filter life; check this before buying.
