Hands-on notes: the Aquasure Harmony Lite 34K in our own household

First-hand use by the site owner, the first days after installation, with long-term results to follow. A whole-house installation with 1-inch PEX plumbing, chosen to get softening and sediment filtration in one setup. Self-installed with factory-default settings. These are personal observations, not lab measurements.

Why we chose it

We wanted whole-house softening and sediment filtration without installing two separate systems. The Harmony Lite pairs a 34,000-grain softener with a pleated sediment pre-filter in one package, which was the appeal.

Unboxing and installation

Opening the box was a little overwhelming: there are a lot of parts. Once we sorted them and started, it was not nearly as bad as it looked. The initial setup was easy, we kept every setting at the factory defaults, and there were no leaks or problems on the first day.

The documentation is the weak point. The instructions could be organised much better, and some included parts aren't mentioned in either the filter instructions or the softener manual; we're still working out where they go.

Measure your space, including the plumbing

It's sold as a space-saving all-in-one, but the finished installation needs more depth than the cabinet alone suggests. With 1-inch PEX, the shortest pipe section was about 3.5 inches, plus an elbow at the end. Our installation needed exactly 27.5 inches of front-to-back clearance, and we fitted it with about half an inch to spare.

The inlet and outlet connect only at the back. Side connections would have made our install much easier and would help in tight utility spaces. Measure your space including connections and elbows, not just the unit's dimensions.

First results

Early results are encouraging. Both of us noticed softer-feeling skin and hair, a beard that feels as if conditioner had been applied, and less need for lotion after washing. These are first impressions, not measurements.

Verdict so far

Happy so far. The instructions need work and the plumbing clearance caught us out, but setup was manageable and the water has made a noticeable difference to skin and hair. It's too early to judge long-term reliability, maintenance or salt use; we'll update this review.

More on drinking water: see our softener and filtration picks; for setup, our installation guide covers programming hardness.

What we didn't measure: incoming and softened-water hardness; water pressure under load; salt use; regeneration frequency; long-term reliability. Test your own water before and after with a hardness test kit to confirm a softener is working.

Who the Aquasure Harmony Lite 34K is for

1–2 bathroom condos and mobile homes.

Who should skip it

Any home that runs a shower and a washing machine at the same time.

Pros

  • All-in-one cabinet with pre-filter
  • Low price band
  • No leaks and factory defaults worked on day one, in our install

Cons

  • Very low listed flow rate, which can drop pressure with two showers running
  • Small capacity
  • Back-only connections: our install needed 27.5 in of front-to-back clearance

Our take

The Lite's listed flow rate is the lowest on this page by a wide margin. That's the price of its size, and it's why it ranks last despite a good price.
